Windows 95/98 Support:

WINDOWS TO WINDOWS 95 OEM UPGRADE PROCEDURES

1.        Rename the file "WIN.COM" in the C:\WINDOWS directory to "WIN.UPG".

2.        Edit CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT so that your CD device drivers are loaded and your CD drive is installed if it is not already configured.   (i.e DEVICE=C:\CDROM.SYS ….in CONFIG.SYS, MSCDEX…in AUTOEXEC.BAT)

3.        Reboot your system, press F8 when "Starting Windows 95" message comes up.

4.        Select from the menu "Command Prompt Only"

5.        Access your CD Drive and run SETUP off of the Windows 95 OEM CD.

6.        Proceed through the screens of SETUP as you would normally when installing Windows 95, except when you get to the screen that specifies which directory to install windows, the default will NOT be C:\WINDOWS\.  It will be something to the effect of: C:\WINDOWS.000.  Manually change the directory to C:\WINDOW (or whereever your existing version of Windows 95 is) to upgrade your current version of Windows.

7.        Windows 95 will install completely at that point.

Note:  This procedure is similar to a full installation of Windows 95, and will not update the version number of Windows 95 if upgrading from one version of Windows 95 to another.  Therefore, if SETUP if run off of the Windows 95 CD and a reinstallation is attempted, Windows 95 will notify that the versions are different and not continue with SETUP.  To reinstall Windows 95, follow the same procedures as outlined in this document.
