Ingram Micro, one of the largest IT distributors and one of our key partners, experienced a cybersecurity incident. We’re secure, and so are our clients, but it was a good lesson: your cybersecurity is only as good as the weakest link in your supply chain!
On July 5, 2025, Ingram Micro confirmed that ransomware was detected on their systems, leading to a proactive shutdown to mitigate the threat. Their operations have been restored, and we have some key learnings to share from the incident.
What You Can Do–Building Supply Chain Resilience
Cybersecurity extends beyond your network. Here are some proactive steps to strengthen your supply chain resilience and better protect your business:
- Vet Your Vendors: Regularly review the cybersecurity practices of your suppliers, distributors, and service providers. Ask about their security measures, incident response plans, and industry standards.
- Diversify Your Supply Chain: Avoid relying heavily on a single vendor. Building relationships with multiple partners can reduce risks and give you more flexibility.
- Establish Contingency Plans: Create and test backup plans for essential supply chain functions. Identify alternative suppliers and set protocols for quick action if disruptions occur.
- Integrate Cybersecurity into Procurement: Consider cybersecurity as a key factor when choosing vendors. Include security requirements in contracts and service agreements.
- Stay Informed and Communicate: Keep lines of communication open with your partners. Share threat intelligence and stay alert to new risks that could affect your operations.
These insights can help you stay informed and resilient. By building strong systems and trusted partnerships, we can all work together to navigate challenges and come out stronger!
